Study Provides Serious Answer to Why Men Exist

From an evolutionary standpoint, the only contribution that men make to the human race is their sperm. So why has evolution allowed the entire sex to exist just for the sake of some semen? A study published yesterday in Nature has an answer. While all-female, asexual populations reproduce more efficiently, men’s instinct to compete for female attention boosts population health and improves the gene pool. “Competition among males for reproduction provides a really important benefit, acting as a filter to remove harmful genetic mutations, helping populations to flourish and avoid extinction in the long-term” says lead study author Matt Gage.
