As the fall approaches, there’s one beverage that has become synonymous with the season: the Pumpkin Spiced Latte. This cozy and flavourful drink has captured the hearts of many with its warm, aromatic blend of pumpkin, spices, and creamy goodness. But did you know that you can easily recreate this drink in the comfort of your own home?

Ingredients you’ll need

To embark on this delightful homemade journey, you’ll need a handful of key ingredients:

1. Coffee:

Start with a strong coffee base. You can use espresso or strongly brewed coffee – your choice!

2. Pumpkin Puree:

The star ingredient that brings the pumpkin flavour. Opt for canned pumpkin puree or make your own by roasting and blending pumpkin chunks.

3. Spices:

The iconic blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and sometimes ginger. Feel free to adjust the quantities to suit your taste preferences.

4. Milk:

You can use dairy or plant-based milk, like almond, oat, or soy, for a creamy texture.

5. Sweetener:

Traditional options include white sugar or brown sugar. Alternatively, you can use honey, maple syrup, or even a sugar-free substitute.

6. Whipped Cream:

For that luxurious finishing touch.

7. Vanilla Extract:

A dash of vanilla complements the flavours beautifully.

8. Optional Garnishes:

Cinnamon sticks, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, or a drizzle of caramel sauce can add an extra touch of elegance.

Method

1. Prepare the Pumpkin Spice Mix:

In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon of ground cloves, and ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger. Mix well and set aside.

2. Brew the Coffee:

Brew a strong cup of coffee or prepare a shot of espresso according to your preference. Set it aside.

3. Heat the Milk:

In a saucepan, heat your choice of milk over medium heat. Avoid boiling – you just want it to be hot.

4. Add Pumpkin and Spices:

Add 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree and ½ teaspoon of the prepared pumpkin spice mix to the hot milk. Whisk until well combined and heated through.

5. Sweeten and Flavour:

Stir in 1-2 tablespoons of your chosen sweetener and a splash of vanilla extract into the milk mixture.

6. Blend and Assemble:

If you have a milk frother, froth the milk mixture until it’s creamy and foamy. If not, you can use a blender or simply whisk vigorously. Pour the prepared coffee into your favorite mug, then gently pour in the spiced milk mixture.

7. Top and Garnish:

Add a dollop of whipped cream on top of the latte. Sprinkle a pinch of the pumpkin spice mix over the cream. For an extra flair, you can drizzle caramel sauce or add a cinnamon stick.

8. Savour the Moment:

Find a cozy spot, take a sip, and relish the rich flavours and comforting aroma of your homemade Pumpkin Spiced Latte.
