Country songs are back on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart after over 40 years.

Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” is number one, and Luke Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” is number two.

The last time that country music topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the 1st and 2nd place was on March 7, 1981, when Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love a Rainy Night” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” were number one and two, respectively.

Wallen’s latest album, One Thing at a Time, has charted all 36 songs. It has also topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums and 200 charts.

Combs’ 2023 album, Gettin’ Old, peaked at numbers 1 and 2 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.
